Two months long waiting period starts today
Follow the pregnancy in our pregnancy journal that can be found HERE Oonah met with Chili today and everything went very well. Together they were the kindest and the sweetest couple I could wish for. No hurry, no force, just love them between. And it is fantastic as none of them has done this ever before. They just knew what was the right thing to do. We will let them meet a couple more times during next week just to increase the chance of puppies. “So what are you waiting for? Why don’t you take Oonah to meet with Chili now?” Our 15-year-old asked this morning
Her questions were followed by a simple answer that Oonah is not ready yet and that she would just get angry at Chili if he tried to do anything at this point. We need to wait until she gets ready. Below is a more facts based explanation of a dogs heat: The canine heat cycle is also called estrous or season and it has four stages: Proestrus. The signs of the first phase are bloody vaginal discharge from your female and somewhat enlarged vulva. This discharge is often bright red coloured. Males will be attracted to your female but she…

Saluki or afghan dog?
This post is for you who never had a saluki and are waiting for one now or who just want to learn more about the breed. Below you can see a picture of Oonah when she was around 6 months. One interesting and at the same time funny thing was that at this point in her development she had so much puppy-fur that she was looking more like an afghan puppy than like a saluki puppy. This is how most feathered salukis look like at that age but it can be somewhat confusing for a first-time saluki owner. It for…

Guess who turned the heat on?
Finally, after 7 months and 13 days, Oonah decided that time has come to get in season. I can’t describe how happy I am for this. I will contact each and one of you who is on our list during the day today, but I thought that if you are reading this page I could make you happy already now.

About jumping
If you never had a privilege to be owned by a saluki and you are on the way to be that, then you probably want to know that they can jump high. Very high. That is why you should have a fence that is at least 1,80 meters high. Some individuals don’t bother to jump over fences even if they are only 60 cm high. Some do their best to jump over fences no matter how high they are. We are privileged with saluki that is not jumping over fences at all. This makes it easier for us to let…

Still no heat but is it close now?
7 months and 9 days since the last time Oonah was in heat. The time between the two last heats was 6 months and 10 days. Shouldn’t her next heat be close now I wonder? She is showing many of the signs that it will come soon such as, peeing 6-7 times during our walks instead of just 2-3 times. As soon as she see a dog in a distance she forgets everything called obedience. At the same time, at home, she is more clingy than ever. And the latest behaviour that we can add to the list of signs…

Sleeping beauties
We have a windstorm outside and inside the house all our beauties are sleeping peacefully. I can’t say that I am as calm as they are. I am so longing for Oonah’s heat to start that it is very difficult for me to just take it easy. And the days like this, when we can’t do much but stay inside, it is extra hard to not think of it. And I think of all of you who are longing for a puppy from Oonah and Chili as much as we are. I am so sorry that you too must experience…

Meetings
Oonah and Tesla are often meeting with Agnes’ beautiful males Sidney and Lennox. Below video is from their meeting on 28th February. You can see how happy they are running together. Thinking of whom we should meet this weekend we talked with Nini yesterday evening and decided to meet with Chili and Cocos. It has been far too long time since the last time they met. We also wanted to remind Oonah that Chili is there. We also exchanged some sms with a pleasant family that lives close by in Genarp and that is interested in a puppy from Oonah…

Children-friendly
From time to time I get a question about how children-friendly salukis are. I can’t talk for the breed in general but I can tell you that Oonah is one of my girls (Saga’s) best friend. They simply love eachother. Where Saga goes Oonah follows. So even if Saluki is one very independent breed there is not a thing that Oonah would not do for Saga. So if we assume that Oonah is one typical saluki then we can say that they are children-friendly.

Filming running dogs is not that easy
