The queen of my heart
Oonah, the queen. The one and only is still keeping us waiting for her heat. For sure it can’t be so far away now. The rest of the pack is often sniffing her under her tail with a great interest and during our walks we can’t get more than a couple of meters before she needs to leave a pee for other dogs to find. From time to time I ask her if she is not interested in getting puppies again soon. She looks at me curiously but never answers. Maybe that is what is scaring her from getting in…

A dream
Apparently I am so longing for this lady to get in heat that I am now dreaming of it…. We were visiting parents of a friend. In the real life, these people have the cleanest house I have ever seen. We were enjoying some coffee in the sun on their veranda when I for some reason wanted to find Oonah. I went inside the house and saw that she was sleeping on their white sofa. She woke up when I entered the room and came to me leaving a huge spot of blood on their expensive sofa. I got so…

Still waiting for that heat
I am not really sure which is worse. Waiting for heat to start, waiting for the first signs of pregnancy or waiting for birth to start. There is only one thing that it sure and that is that there is a lot of waiting in the process of making a litter. Oonah is still not showing any signs of heat being there but she is very interested in leaving the trace after herself almost everywhere on our walks. This makes me hopeful as it usually is the first sign of the approaching heat.

Colour DNA of Lo and Dottie
As you most likely know by now both David and me are very interested in colour genetics of salukis. For this reason we colour test all our salukis. We already knew what Oonah’s colour code is so three weeks ago we ordered a test of her daughters Lo and Dottie and now we got the results. I would like to also mention that we always order colour tests from The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory (VGL). The VGL is a non-profit, self-supporting unit of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis, US. Dottie’s colour code is: Eg/e – one…

New saluki litter plans
We are so excited to share with all of you our plans for the new saluki litter that we hope will happen late spring 2022. The mother will be our beutiful Oonah (C.I.B., DK CH, SE CH, ESH 2018, KBH W 2017, ST W 2017, CPH JW 2016 Amal Hayati Oonah Nadira Al Jameelah). We hope that she will get into heat in March. And the father to be is beautiful Milan (SE CH, DK CH Lags Latifha Laurian). Oonah is already health tested but we will do a new heart test as the old one is almost one year…

These two…
Almost weekend and I am spending my evening with these two lovely girls by my side planning for this year’s dog shows. With COVID restrictions gone in Denmark and here in Sweden we hope that there will be larger number to participate in this year compared with what was there the last two.

Heat
As you all know by now we are waiting for Oonah to start with her heat. So as soon as I see a drop of blood on the floor I get excited. Is it her? Are we there now? So when I saw the first drop of blood, two weeks ago, I already saw Oonah’s and Milan’s puppies being born. Unfortunately it was not her blood, it was Heidi’s. A couple of days went by and then new blood drops and my hopes woke up again just to disappear in a puff of smoke minutes later. It was not Oonah,…

Happy, healthy hearts
Starting the weekend with some happy news. Today both Milan and Oonah gott their hearts checked by the heart specialist Torkel Falk. The result: they both have healthy hearts! As this was the great opportunity for Milan and Oonah to meet for the first time we went to this beautiful dog park nearby and let them spend some time together. They both liked eachother from the first sight which made me glad as I really want all our litters to be product of mutual affection between the couple. Now we are waiting for Oonah to get in heat so that…

Evening play
One evening, maybe a week ago, we happen to meet our neighbours’ lovely young dog Milou. It was fun to watch him play with our young girls.

What a beautiful day
After a week full of meetings for both David and me, we could not resist the urge to get out and get some sunlight when we realized that we both had no meetings between 14.00 and 15.00. Sun was shining and you could feel the warmth coming from it just like it was a promise that the spring will be here soon and with it new adventures.
